CMERI developed a manual mechanical Sheller, where separation of the kernel is done by cutters operated by handfoot. The Decorticator can conveniently be mounted on a work tablethe worker can sit in front to operate it. The Decorticator developed by CMERI facilitates operationthereby reduces the drudgery common in manual process.

The Decorticator splits the nuts between two horizontally mounted blades, specially shaped to suit the contour of the raw nut. The outer shell can conveniently be separated by engaging a pair of horizontally mounted blades.

The upper blades are positively fixed in the same axis with the sliding bladethe lower one is of splitting type.The Decorticator is expected to shell 20-25 Kg of raw nuts per worker in a 8-hour shift. Depending upon the capacity of the processing unit required, a number of Decorticators can be used.
